What is the SSP?
The Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is a passive listening program used to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience.
Based on Dr. Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, the SSP works by calming the physiological and emotional state and opening the door for increased resilience and openness to learning.

How many sessions are needed? The entire SSP protocol is 5 hours in total with up to 30 minutes of listening per session. The focus is on responding to your nervous system and pausing when discomfort arises so the number of sessions is 15 at a minimum and may be more depending on your nervous system response.
-
Am I a good fit for the SSP?The SSP is not recommended for people with ringing in the ears/tinnitus. It is also not recommended for individuals with active suicidal ideation and/or self harm behaviors, and mental states or current use of psychadelics or other substances that limit the ability to connect with the present moment.

Why do you say this is not a stand alone therapy? The SSP increases flexibility in the nervous system granting you greater access to the social engagement system. Only when we feel generally safe and open to social engagement can we be open to learning and growing in terms of our thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. During the listening, painful thoughts and beliefs can arise and we want to make sure you have access to the support you deserve to process these. The SSP is best done in conjunction with other modalities that address cognitive and behavioral growth, such as traditional counseling or alternative modalities. If you are not currently accessing another modality, we will discuss your willingness to engage with a behavioral health specialist as needed during the process to ensure that you are adequately supported as you proceed through the SSP. The SSP and Nervous System Coaching are not a psychological therapy or treatment method and are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent any diagnosis or condition.
